Project implementation
Nepal Project
NAM has been working with Action Against Hunger (ACF) since May 2018 to implement the "Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition in Nawalparsi District, Nepal." The project was funded by the Imai Memorial Overseas Cooperation Fund. Nawalparsi District is located in the Terai region, bordering India to the south. Approximately 12% of children under the age of five are acutely malnourished, and the project aims to detect these children early and provide treatment and prevention measures. The core activity of the project is training to improve the capacity to deal with acute malnutrition. Health staff from the district health office who received TOT training trained health workers at local health facilities, and these health workers trained women volunteers in the community. Since August 2017, an outpatient treatment and recovery center (OTP) has been established for severely acutely malnourished children under the age of five, and trained health workers have started treatment and recovery activities using therapeutic food (RUTF). In addition, project management committees have been established at the community and district levels to coordinate the progress of the project and discuss problem solving.
