Egypt-Japan Education Partnership Training on Hospital Management and Health Systems

This training was for Egyptian doctors. The Department of Global Health, Department of Hygiene and Public Health, Tokyo Women's Medical University, was commissioned by Egypt to hold an introductory session on positive deviance by NAM. After explaining the concept of positive deviance (PD) to the 10 participants who knew nothing about it, NAM introduced examples of its application in the fields of nutrition, health, and hospitals. Finally, participants split into two groups and set "increase in Caesarean section births in hospitals" and "attendance rates in medical schools" as areas where PD could be applied in their workplaces and projects, and discussed and presented a PD roadmap (implementation method for each step). During the question and answer session, there was an active exchange of opinions on the importance and difficulty of involving stakeholders and whether the focus of PD should be on hospitals or individuals.
