Crash Course on "Nutrition in Emergencies (NIE)"
A three-day intensive course on "Nutrition in Emergency (NIE)" was held at the United Nations University Building from 11 to 13 October 2017. The course was organized by NAM, co-organized by Save the Children Japan, RESULTS Japan, World Vision Japan, UNICEF, and WFP, with the cooperation and support of Japan Platform, JICA, and FAO. Two international experts (Rita Bhatia and Andrew Seal) were invited as lecturers to educate Japan-based stakeholders on nutrition issues and measures in emergencies around the world, and to improve basic understanding of nutrition and broad practical knowledge on nutrition measures in emergencies. Approximately 40 people from NGOs, international organizations, universities, research institutes, governments, and private companies participated in this three-day course, which is also an introductory course to the Regional Course on Nutrition in Emergency (11-day course).
Materials used: Supplementary materials (English + Japanese summary) were created and distributed based on the materials developed by UCL and other NIE partners based on the NIE Harmonized Training Package (HTP v2) of the Global Nutrition Cluster (GNC), which was established to improve the effectiveness of international humanitarian aid in the field of nutrition on a global scale.
