Action Network Against Malnutrition
There is growing awareness and momentum around the world about the importance of the problem of malnutrition and how to address it.
As an international mechanism for combating malnutrition, the action framework called SUN (Scale-Up Nutrition) was officially launched at the World Bank Annual Meeting in April 2010. The Japanese government established the SUN Trust Fund and contributed 2 million dollars, and at the SUN International Conference in April 2011, the Japanese government announced that it would support the promotion of SUN.
In 2008, the Lancet published an article on the importance of nutritional interventions as an effective and scientific method to improve maternal and child malnutrition, and pointed out the lack of leadership and resources to address the global malnutrition problem. In response, in 2010, an international partnership called SUN (Scaling Up Nutrition) [1] was launched to improve nutritional issues. As of October 2014, 54 countries are participating in SUN, and they are independently and collaboratively developing strategies to improve nutrition through direct and indirect nutrition interventions. Then, at the World Health Assembly in 2012, global goals for improving nutrition were established, and measures and necessary financial mobilization are underway to achieve these goals.
